The sample packages

The course content is a joke; the tracking is real. Every package has a "Live SCORM data" panel at the bottom that shows exactly what it sends to the LMS, and every package also runs without an LMS, showing what it would have sent.

What is inside a SCORM package?

A SCORM package is a ZIP file with a web course inside and a manifest that tells the LMS how to run it.

working-for-a-cat-scorm12.zip
├── imsmanifest.xml
├── index.html
├── course.js
└── shared/
    ├── scorm.js
    ├── engine.js
    ├── base.css
    └── theme.css

imsmanifest.xml

Lists the course title, its lessons and the file each lesson starts from, plus settings such as the pass mark.

SCOs (lessons)

The parts the LMS launches and tracks one by one. Most courses have one; Dog Maths has three.

The runtime API

How the course talks to the LMS while it runs: it finds the LMS's SCORM API (here in shared/scorm.js) and reports status, score, answers and bookmarks.

How to test a package in your LMS

1

Upload

Add the zip to your LMS as a SCORM activity.

2

Launch

Open it as a learner would.

3

Finish or leave

Complete the quiz, or leave halfway to test resume.

4

Check the report

Compare the LMS report with the course's Live SCORM data panel.

No LMS to hand? Every package also runs in the XtoSCORM SCORM player, no account needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use these in my own LMS or training?

Yes. All packages are under the MIT licence, so you can use, change and share them, including in commercial work. Attribution is appreciated but not required.

Do they work without an LMS?

Yes. Unzip a package and open its start page (index.html) in a browser and it runs on its own. The Live SCORM data panel then shows the values it would have sent to an LMS.

Which LMSs are they tested with?

So far: the XtoSCORM SCORM player, and every package is validated against the ADL SCORM schemas. We will list other LMSs here once they have been tested.

SCORM 1.2 or 2004, which should I test?

Test the version your courses use. SCORM 1.2 is still the most widely supported; SCORM 2004 adds separate completion and success status, scaled scores and navigation between lessons.

All packages are free to use, modify and share under the MIT licence.
